I wanted to start with these “concept - detonating ideas” that might help me to think about the spaces I want, their intentions and the relations in between.
I enjoyed so much the “mapping” exercise from the 1st semester and I think so valuable that carry this process thru the whole program, that I that has been one of my inspirations to start the first assignment.
I am incorporating some of the ideas that “pop” to my mind while I am working.
Look forward for this semester!

Gus,
Where am I in the map?? HAHA. I have no idea why this is sticking out at me, but your idea of the student is such a strong element. You have created this picture of the student as older, wiser students than what many think of as a typical student. I don’t know if that is just in your post, but even in our interaction in Boston with one another. You experienced the homesickness toward the end and the desire to reach out to your loved ones at home. I feel this in your post by just a few key words here and there. Maybe this is something to pursue throughout the programming phase. Maybe these feelings can be the result of some key elements.
The two of you are funny, I got a good chuckle out of the hand sketch :-) it made me feel like a family, except that you forgot Jaclyn, david and Matt - Que paso?
On a more serious note, Jaclyn brings up a good point about the older student. I don't know if you noticed, but Amr said individual rooms, both of these comments made me think about the restroom/bathing facilities. Meaning, we are probably visualizing this as hotel rooms with individual showers as oppose to commonly design dorm style bathing and restroom facilities. What about green strategies and saving on construction materials or water consumption. The beauty about green strategies is that they get implemented in Schematic design and not in Design Development. I thought it was really interesting that Gus is actually thinking about the "persona" of the facility as oppose to what the skin or the glazing will be, that's poetic and Super cool.
I can't believe you completely forgot the heartland... NEBRAKSA... haha.
Gus, I actually heard you "birthing" your ideas as I looked at your sketches!! lol
Eddie mentions being green which I think will be a strong consideration this semester (per Arch Tech information) plus it's the right thing to do! However,...if I remember correctly, a majority of the students last semester paid the extra $$ for single rooms. That’s what made me program more toward the single room concept in lieu of double. I guess there could be a mix, but my guess is that most people would like to retreat back to their own refuge. But, Eddie is correct, double or "bunk house" would be greener!
Keep posting!!!
